Black Hair Care: Growing out hair?

So I've recently stopped wearing weave and now I'm just wearing my natural hair braided back. It seems like my hair gets thicker and thicker, but it doesn't get any longer. MY question is what's the best thing for me to do for my hair and how much does hair grow every month or so?

What you're doing is definitely best!!!

In the beginning it can become boring, but remember the long-term goal. To tame your mane right now, wash it EVERY week AT THE LEAST! Your hair doesn't look like it's growing because our hair is natural wavy, but believe me, it's growing. For maximum growth, use a cholsterol conditioner as a leave in treatment. Every person's hair grows at it's own pace, so wash blow dry and straighten out your hair as best as possible and measure. 45 days later measure again, and do it again in another 45 days. This is how you can gauge your timeline for your target hair length.

Keep your hair braided, but don't go to stylists that braid so tight that you get bumps or so soft that the braids don't last. Remember, braids are versatile. If you get tired of straight backs, get individuals...tired of short hair, get extensions...tired of braids, get your natural hair pressed.

Most important, FABULOSITY is a state of mind! Hats, scarves and even fun accessories can make your transition from short and unsure to fabulous and confident even smoother.

NO PROBLEM!

Like the others stated, never go to sleep without your hair wrapped in a silk/satin scarf...unless you've got some silk/satin pillowcases like me;-) Report It

Don't let it get too dried out Keep it moisturized , It will grow 1 to 1 1/2 inches a month

hair grows about an inch each month. condition hair well and focus on the ends and deep condition once or twice a week to strengthen it and cut dead ends you may see results

well thats what happened to me before i started using triple gro now my hair is growing longer and thicker.an black hair grows 6" per year so that should be 1/2" a month an your hair DOES grow its just a matter of making sure you take care of it so that the ends don't break. There is NO NEED to cut your hair as ALL of your hair is dead hair and does not affect growth at the follicle. Also try covering your hair every night w' a SATIn sleep bonnet to prevent breakage and retain moisture.

I'm not sure about how much it will grow but one thing is for sure..... u better not get cornrows too often otherwise your hairline will recede back and then u will look like grace jones lol

Hi, So it really depends on your hair texture. Try washing it every week with Mane and Tail Shampoo and Conditioner. Trust me this stuff really works on all hair not just black, but since i am black i would know! lol

also instead on braiding it back, try wrapping it with some foaming spray or water whatever works best for you! pulling on ur hair won't increase the length it will only break off the ends faster!

Whew! and one more thing! LoL

trim it!

It sounds painful to lose what you worked so hard for but in a few months it will all be worth it!

good luck

well to encourage ur hair to grow, u should maybe put oil (coconut is the best) in ur hair at least once a week, or half an hour before having a shower...it makes ur hair shiny, healthy and encourages it to grow (i don't know if it's scientifically proven, but my gran says it works n as far i know it does). also tie ur hair back properly, before going to bed, so that it doesn't get rubbed against as much, because when it rubs against ur pillow a lot it stunts the growth cos it damages ur hair and makes it quite dry...

i also think that keeping ur hair braided all the time may be stunting the growth of ur hair...u could try keeping it open for a few months and maybe u shud just trim the ends.

oh n hair is said to grow about 1.25cm per month...

Deep conditions and simple cornrows! When you get your hair braided tell your stylist that you don't want them tight. I wore weave (tracks) for almost 2 years, and finally I got tired of it. So after that all I did was get deep conditions FAITHFULLY once a week and braided it back. It was sooo full and pretty, but you have got to keep the extreme chemicals out of your hair, they are not good. simply put a light grease on your scalp and it will grow! Mines did.

Now I've got dreadlocks. which my hair is now growing faster then ever.
